This post has been sitting on my hard drive since late 2021 .. at the time, I wasn’t ready to publish, but my 5 years clicked through earlier this year and today I rediscovered the draft - so I guess it is time.

The headline seemed so innocent. So innocuous.

I have taken this as far as I can.
Euthanasia is now arranged.
I’ve had a great life, travelled all over the world.
Most important of all is the 45 years spent with Debz.
I could never have done it without her.
Now at the end she is a tower of strength and support.
I am so fortunate to live in a country that allows you to choose when the time is right for you.
It gets a little involved as they make sure it’s what you really want and that you’re not under any pressure.
Once they are convinced it’s fairly straightforward.
There’ll be an announcement on CML next week once it’s over.

Holy Crap

I have been so fed up with the slug that my M4 Mac had become around saving files - removing ‘moonlock’ and ‘clean my mac’, stopping electron files from running - firing up terminal commands as if my life depended on it. NADA.

So with a quick hail mary I jumped on to the 26.2 public beta (with the same joy and spirit as I did when I did something similar with 26.1 - and got no change …)

and yet …

… yet …

Here I am - a man no longer tortured - and what seems to be a massive upgrade in performance that 🍎 never - ever - fessed up to.

Let’s see if it holds.

Trouble shooting two totally different problems on two totally different macs with two totally different user accounts and after constant narrowing down of the issues in those worlds - BOTH come down to the user - login as a different user .. the issue is not there …

Problem 1 - MSoft Office crashes and hangs

I kid you not, so frustrated earlier today that I have had to calm down. All my iOS stuff not currently in use is kept in a single place. Yesterday the pile was - shall we say - ‘organised’. All stuff in same place - just a neater pile than usual.

Today, I went to pick up iPad and 🍎Pencil - and the pencil was missing. Nowhere. Seperated all devices out - and checked off one by one. Still nothing. I went to the places I usually use it - nada. Lifted couch cushions. Nothing. Stopped search. Started search. Frustration doesn’t even get to it. Two hours and then some. Negotiating with myself - that clearly it was a message from above that my old pencil had run its course - and I could now justify a super duper new one.

Here’s what I think happened.

The bank manager got hold of that rationale and somehow planted in my brain that I should take one more look. I did.

Did I mention the tray that sits beside the ‘iOS stuff’? I mean it’s there. It’s clearly not hiding - and I had looked under and all around it. The lip of the tray curves down so you can’t see anything behind the lip if you look ‘underneath from the side’. But I knew that and had already looked. I mean - how could anything really be there? It would just fall down again.

TODAY I LEARNED …

.. that the tray has sufficient Nickel plating that it can attract a magnet in say something like an Apple Pencil and snap that puppy nice and tight into and under that lip.

Stunning .. great job from Colin F .. but the homage to ‘noir’ yet modern, the direction, the cinematography, the colors, the lights, the nuance … everything. Just so good.

I have read that people loved the mid season ‘twist’ …if we are talking last scene in episode 6 .. yeah no .. I had that scene in my head for a couple of episodes prior, so no twist for me. In fact, it happened to coincide with when I thought the show had finished .. and I 🖇️ even posted that I was very disappointed with the ending (EEJIT I am).

Anyway .. all this to say … loved it. If you have 🍎 📺, whatever else you are watching stop - and go take a look.

Reading all the various commentaries around DoJ v 🍎, I am finding ‘heads on Threads’ making good arguments.

At the beginning of the year I had grand plans for this series. A daily long-form post about something that was rattling my brain that day. And then life. For a while, I was even just dropping markers - to revisit. I came to realise that part of the problem was the complexity of the structure for each post - so that went away. Simplicity really is rather nice. As I write on 240413, I am now going back and filling in the gaps. PLUS - unless something strikes me immediately, I will not classify until the end of the day and go back to move one of the posts of the day into the 366. Also - if you are wondering how I have update the words at the bottom of over 100 posts at a stroke, well - THANK YOU Andy Sylvester and his Glossary plugin.

TIL that 🍎 is not quite as open and sharing with the Windows world as we might believe. YES - you can install an app called iCloud for Windoze on your PC BUT - for it to work - you need to authorize it from any device you have that is part of the 🍎 eco system.

Channeling Henry F - you can use any OS you want to use iCloud - but to authorize it you have to have an iOS device.

For months I have had 4 ghost messages in 🍎 Mail. That’s 4 ‘unread messages’ according to the count - but no messages there.

It’s a known problem that has been there through many versions of OSX. In the past, I have always been able to flush it out with various tools like delete the plist, rebuild etc etc.

This time round - nada. I learned to live with it.

Until yesterday.

Out of the blue 13 more got added to the count. They just appeared (if that doesn’t confuse you - because of course the whole point is that they do not actually appear!

So now - a total of seventeen. FFS … Apple. Hello?
