Finished watching: 🎥 Wildcat - better than expected and fun. It lost the plot in the final 15 to 20 minutes - but don’t they all? Definitely take a watch if you are looking and into the ‘all action’ genre.

🖇️ Me - a couple of days ago

Revisited this morning and Siri happily reduced the 30,000 into a more manageable set of docs that I was actually after.

In the 30,000 we found some 2,367 Markdown files that had meaningful information that MIGHT be useful in my newly emerging 🖇️wiki.

Analysis seemed out of Siri reach - so zipped it up and sent to ChatGPT.

The accompanying analysis now sits in the Obsidian Notes vault.

As highlighted:

The objective was not to tidy the Vault. It is to make the thinking inside it visible.

We’re building Siri not to be a companion. It was a very big deal. It’s an advisor, but not a companion. Siri is there as a concierge, a professional persona. It is not an amiable person, because they want to maintain an emotional distance. That was by design.

Have to say that’s what is particularly working for me. More on this later when I get round to it.

🖇️ This has in turn inspired me to sort out my entire folder of Markdown notes.

Started today - with two twists. All is staying local for use within Obsidian - no Wiki needed. The starting point is a lot of notes with various degrees of completeness and meaning - lots of dupes - exports from blogs etc etc - according to the file count … just shy of 30,000. I know - diseased.

Second twist use Siri - which is still indexing - but ‘heh’ - no time like the present. Right?

Handled it like a pro - by giving me Python scripts that I would stand no chance of writing myself - and would be using tokens to over in Claude.

Siri doesn’t seem to (yet?) have an ability to manage local files in the way that Claude’s desktop commander does - but otherwise … I seem to have a new partner - with no additional cost (yet) and all local - or at least no further than private cloud.

🏗️ I am using Claude to co-build my Wiki and have now got a nice flow to it. Claude has access to a specific folder on my drive - we edit together and Claude does things like cleaning up my tags and other YAML - as well as pushing the local folder contents up to Git. Blot picks it up from there and pushes it out to 🖇️ https://wiki.philpin.com … like all good web properties it is an eternal WIP. Not ready from prime time - BUT as I say on the Wiki:

“we have leaned into the design philosophy of ‘build in public’ and not wait for perfect”

I also use the whole thing locally with Obsidian.

We keep learning that ‘against’ is insufficient (take the last US election as a clear example) .. we need to answer ‘for’ … not only do we continually fail to learn that lesson we also seem to constantly rediscover the knowledge.

John Gruber blogged about XCancel shutting down yet again, adding this in a parenthetical:

…let’s admit it at this point, there’s not just a lot posted on X, it’s resurgent in popularity

It’s true. Just telling folks what we’re against has not been enough to rebalance the web to open platforms.
