Talking to an old friend tonight. I said something. He replied …

“Sausage speared by the cocktail satellite”

.. which curiously enough made sense in the flow of the conversation .. but I still had to ask. The full quote …

Poolside laughter has a cynical bite
Sausage speared by the cocktail satellite

It comes from the song ‘🔗📼 Lay Your Hands On Me, version of the song that my friend said that was the version I needed to watch.

Just did and too good not to share. So …

Cans on - Volume up - listen in for 8 minutes - and come out shaking.

People who treat AI like a teammate, coach it and give it feedback and importantly, get it to ask them questions. The fundamental orientation a lot of people take towards AI is I’m the question asker. AI is the answer giver. But if you think about AI like a teammate, you say, hey, what are ten questions I should ask about this? Or what do you need to know from me in order to get the best response?

What Brad said - but until you have heard this cover - you haven’t heard Creep 🤯🎵 by @bradbarrish

I’ve heard “Creep” too many times, but seeing Erin Morton perform it gave me chills and made me cry. Just wow.

Black Mirror

7 series since 2011 - and only just getting round to reviewing as I just finished Series 7. In recent series, I felt that whilst some were still good, IMHO a number of episodes lacked real punch. …

Welcome to Structured Visual Thinking New York City.

This caught my eye this morning …. 🔗 NYC subway map updated with a diagrammatic style - FlowingData

FINALLY

Reminded me of 2 YouTubes by Map Men’s Jay Foreman

🔗📼 The Tube Map nearly looked very different

🔗📼 What went wrong with the Tube Map?

Around 7:45 in video 2 is where Jay highlights the fiasco that is (now moving to was) the New York map …

with the notable exception of the New York subway that insists on being as baffling and ugly as possible.

Do watch HIGHLY recommend - and definitely not a map nerd. (particularly)

The Overview features on no less than 4 public AlbumWhale lists - turns out all 4 are mine.

  • Neo Progressive
  • English Progressive
  • Steven Wilson

and

  • Surprises. In some ways not a surprise at all. Terrific album - but you do need it to marinate.

Inspired to finally for out my Feedland space today after reading @Dave ’s 🔗 doc

Simple instructions and it ‘just worked’ - so much to the point that I am happy to link to it from my 🖇️ Blog Navigation.

The link takes you to my 🔗 news feed which is a ‘river of news’ driven by my 🔗 subscriptions - early days yet but it’s a start.

The impetus was that Dave was also talking elsewhere about adding BlueSky feeds to the list. I tried it out - and added a couple of my own. I didn’t use the handy dandy ‘sub’ short cut that Dave demonstrated.

Would be great if I could edit the title - maybe you can, but not found out how yet.

// @andysylvester - because I know you are tracking this stuff.

Jax often tells me that I need hearing aids - but have to say I had NO issue very clearly hearing what Ibtihal Aboussad was saying at the ‘Microsoft 50’ Event. None at all. The fact that people are writing that they had no idea that she was protesting the war in Gaza suggests a few alternatives

  • they just weren’t listening because they don’t anyway
  • they block out women’s voices
  • they block out foreign accents
  • they have no idea that ‘something’ is going on in Gaza, so none of it made sense.
  • they need hearing aids more than me.

… I’m sure there are some other thoughts and will append and comment if they are suggested.

In a different thread @njr shared 🔗 this to which I responded …

Hats off to the Verge for not editing it out. Unlike pretty much any other media organisation in America would do. In fact is doing.

Beyond that quite a few others have suggested this was absolutely the wrong time and place to make such a protest Like on 🔗 Daring Fireball)

to which I respond;

  • If not then - then when?
  • If not there - then where?
Somewhere nice and quiet so nobody hears?
Yes it’s hard. Yes it wasn’t appropriate? It never is.

and, when John writes;

there’s a time and a place for everything, and Microsoft’s own 50th anniversary celebration was not the time or place for two insufferable self-involved showboats to make the event about them. Because that’s what this was. It was about them, personally. Not about Gaza or Israel.

going on to say

The place for righteous protests is in public, in the streets  - exactly as they are happening across the United States today.

.. the link takes you to a Guardian article about Tariffs - why not something related?

Trust me - there are plenty of demonstrations around the US against what Israel is doing - you just need to have been on the internet in the past couple of years. (Not so much by watching the telly).

But thanks to 🔗Wikipedia the protests are being logged - even if they are being ignored and even campaigned agains t by the usual douches.

Meanwhile a couple o’ bonus links

Gaza, Columbia University, Silencing people - it’s all connected.

CNN : A pro-Israel group says it gave US list of protesters to deport, drawing alarm from students’ supporters

Time to stop - for now. I need an editor!!!
