๐๏ธ Asides
Throw way thoughts. Sometimes I wonder why I felt it was worth posting when I did. Other times even I can’t work out what I was trying to say.
๐๏ธ A post arriving via the new micro.blog beta that @manton just dropped. I am not a natural ‘grab the beta’ kinda guy - but for this I make an exception. Advance word suggests that it might include a few things I have been looking for … none of which included ‘a local AI model’ - but having just installed a few over the weekend - sure … why not … let’s have a party ๐ฅณ
All good - all nice - all working - nicely done sir.
One side request if you are listening Manton … i very much like the categories appearing on the add post screen. Any chance they could be listed as a column on the side rather than the bottom. Bottom works fine for a few categories - close to impossible if you have a sickness like mine.
There’s something about book spines .. you generally tilt your head one way and all the titles are readable - because the title on the spine starts at the top and goes to the bottom. BUT - every now and then one seems to slip through - and as you looking at the shelf - you have to crick in the opposite direction.
This came to mind just now when I saw this …
๐๏ธ Has ‘OTD’ gone away as a plugin? Or was it only ever on GitHub? Either way, cant find it. Different name? Asking for a friend.
๐๏ธ Any person in the USA with something like a 401K will shortly be an owner of SpaceX. I predict that on the other side of the IPO, any noise from nay sayers about the company will be used by the Muskrat as proof that they are UN-American and working against the good people of the nation.
๐๏ธ Vinod Khosla talking with Sam Harris. Only the free bit - so maybe he changes his tack after the 15 minute mark. But I doubt it. Yeah Nah.
๐๏ธ Corporate Governance is apparently all the rage. Not sure why - it seems to be as toothless as the Democrats on the Hill.
๐๏ธ The good news is that my drafts count continues to go down. A few weeks ago just shy of 300 - today below 60. And yes - I know that people keep thousands of drafts in that world - but I am not one of those. To me it is the first stage of any text that will pass through any number of workflows. If it is in Drafts - it’s in my ‘inbox’ and needs to be dealt with. Like the next one.
๐๏ธ via @dave .. interesting ๐ Tweeter Feeder - Stream Spigot - tried it out - not for me.
๐๏ธ Have to say when I look around at other services in film, shows, music and books - Letterboxd (sadly only film) seem to have it more right than the others.
๐๏ธ The end of an era. When I first arrived in SF they were the bedrock of support for places like KQED and related programming. They did - and do - a lot more beside. I hope the โkidsโ get the future right.
The Evelyn and Walter Haas Jr. Fund, one of San Franciscoโs largest philanthropic foundations, is closing at the end of 2028 as younger generations of the Haas family transition to new giving initiatives.
๐๏ธ So with him.
๐ The Enification of Enification
When there’s a change to a thing and you don’t like it or approve of it, you need to consider a frightening alternative possibility. Maybe it isn’t enshittification. Maybe it’s just change.

๐๏ธ ๐ We need a social web for nobodies. writes @dave
1] Every nobody is a somebody to somebody.
2] That is what we have โฆ itโs just spoiled by tech bros, algorithms and loud mouths.
3] People typically have more pride in that which they own versus rent. I think this a core tenant of why โglobal town squaresโ are not the future and instead an ever growing network of interconnected micro communities is.
๐๏ธ Must have 7 or 8 shows started and not one has grabbed me. Added one more to the list tonight and just started episode 2 - back to back. Been a while since that happened.
๐๏ธ You forget all the funny little things you do to get all this stuff going. Eight days later - and we are finally back. I think.
