We already killed the slop in our writing . The em dash, โdelve,โ โtapestry,โ โin todayโs fast-paced worldโ - the measured lexicon of words that spiked in published text the moment the models got loose on it. โDelveโ alone rose about 1,500 percent in scientific abstracts between 2022 and 2024. These words are not wrong. They are tells. A reader sees three of them and stops trusting the page, even when the substance is fine.

All my life Iโve suffered from โMOBSโ. As the name suggests, it only affects males, and in my case is particularly severe.
So when Jax asked me last night to get her AirPods from her desk, I immediately said yes, while my internal alert system moved into overdrive.
I searched the desk, surrounding area, even where they would normally be charging, eventually returning to the kitchen, head hung low - to report an ‘F2F’ - that would be Failure to Find to you rookies.
She was quick to reply: โOn the right-hand side of the desk, by the journals.โ
Back upstairs I went. Nope. Not there. I searched the whole room. Nothing. Nada. Null.
Back downstairs I came.
โStill not there,โ I reported.
โGood grief, do I need to go?โ
โYes,โ I said. โClearly I am incapable.โ
She downed tools, walked two steps, and announced: โTheyโre in my pocket.โ
Of course to Jax it was hilarious. Me? Still working through the emotional roller coaster that I typically ride in these situations.
