Work Life Balance

🔗 The Thought

Chris Lockhead dropped a post on LinkedIN regarding retirement.

To me retirement is the macro version of the daily work-life balance.

It solves the wrong problem really well.

Found the link via Daniel Savage - thank you - it has been a while - so did not see this one coming. As I type not fully released (June) … but Pulp ✅ Jarvis ✅ Richard Hawley ❌ .. as far as I can see is not on the record - but there seems to be one of his songs on it - we don’t know which one right now. (Well try to come back to this an update when it gets fully released.

The Overview by Steven Wilson

This album is currently featured on 4 public lists on AlbumWhale - all mine!

BUT - this not exactly a reshare - but an opportunity for you to click on this link and hear the Orchestral Version of The Overview.

Songs Of A Lost World by The Cure

Songs Of A Lost World by The Cure

Always loved The Cure. First studio in 16 years. My thanks to Patrick Rhone for highlighting this. As he writes

It’s fantastic. Both classic and modern at the same time.

For me - his voice is definitely not what it was - but that would be hard - he's still got it.

Life, Death And Dennis Hopper by The Waterboys

Life, Death And Dennis Hopper by The Waterboys

ALWAYS loved The Waterboys. This made me sit up - an entire album dedicated to Dennis Hopper - where the music itself moves through the years of Hopper’s life.

The Future Of Work

Interesting quote from Ollie Henderson’s book popped up this morning - which reminded me of a Jason Fried quote and they both tie to some fascinating work I am doing right now. Bob said it 61 years ago - not prescient - simply a fact The Times They Are (ALWAYS) A-Changin' …

On Om

Om writes about the mediocrity of modern Google - for me most of what they do has always been mediocre because their UX sucks and the best (older) example would be why Google Sheets when you have Airtable? And the thing is with better UI Google was on pole positon to do Airtable before Airtable - and on acrsoo the entire product line.

The People’s OS

Back in the archives of People First I used to talk about ‘The People’s OS’. 🔗 Here for example. It sat together with something that I also called HumanIT. In many ways playful ideas on a tech first world that even then was apparent - much less today. (Hat tip to my friend Jeff Orgel who gave me ‘HumanIT’.) (And now you know why I started ‘People First’.)

Reading this today makes me think that this movement might just be an idea whose time has finally come … (another hat tip - this one to ‘Victor’.)

It's Incredible How Supposed 'Pros' Just Don't Get It.

Back on Apple. Specifically the difficualty people who should know better continue to fail miserably at understanding the company - and if they don’t understand - how can they explain?

Ready To Choose Sides Yet?

I have always been adamant. I am English. British at best. And that is why I remain on a US Green Card - which historically raised eyebrows. It hasn’t alwayss been easy - but right now feeling good about it.

Work Life Balance - AGAIN.

Long said that the whole work/life balance problem ‘solves the wrong problem really well’. For example - 🖇️ me, nearly six years ago

I conclude …

Does John Mayall feel fulfilled? Well, needless to say, I can’t speak for him - but I think he does. Is he the richest musician on the planet? Not by a long way. Is he the most well known? Not at all. But I’d wager he is one of the most fulfilled people out there. And not a work-life balance equation to be seen.

Just read this in Gaping Void
