Welcome to Structured Visual Thinking New York City.

This caught my eye this morning …. 🔗 NYC subway map updated with a diagrammatic style - FlowingData

FINALLY

Reminded me of 2 YouTubes by Map Men’s Jay Foreman

🔗📼 The Tube Map nearly looked very different

🔗📼 What went wrong with the Tube Map?

Around 7:45 in video 2 is where Jay highlights the fiasco that is (now moving to was) the New York map …

with the notable exception of the New York subway that insists on being as baffling and ugly as possible.

Do watch HIGHLY recommend - and definitely not a map nerd. (particularly)

🔗 Mapped: Which Countries Produce the Most Silver?

… in case you are wondering;

  • Mexico is at number one - and double the country in second place.

  • The U.S.A. is at number nine - producing around a third of that same country in second place.

Number 2? JINA

Now I am reading that GenZ (yes - that GenZ) is suffering from ‘decision fatigue’ and are increasingly wearing uniform clothing on rotation to the workplace. (I think you’ll find that we used to call these suits - grey or blue used to be the ‘go tos’.)

Read It Here

“They’re copying Steve Jobs and showing up to the office in uniforms.”

So much for the revolution in the workplace that the youth were promised to bring. Then again … john.philpin.com/2025/04/1…

So much for the revolution in the workplace that the youth were promised to bring. Then again - this was posted on LinkedIN about on article in FORTUNE - so anyway … about that bridge. BUT, if true …

Might I suggest something more 2025 …

Not sure if Billy Bragg created the idea … but it was on his Substack I first saw it … I will be adopting it …

Just posted this on LinkedIN …

Go back a while and I used to explain the difference in the politics of the US, where I lived and the UK, where I’m from .. in that the vast majority of the ‘left’ in the US were still to the right of the vast majority of the ‘right’ in the UK. No analysis, just how I felt as a dude on his life’s journey. Thank you for providing the explanation that supports my long held feelings.

… as a comment on a Simon Wardley post - 🔗 which you can find here

I love how he is broadening out his subject matter from his maps - but still ties them in.

💬 Think of this one as a bonus to the ‘Inspired By People’ series … john.philpin.com/search-sp…

Dear Apple - those tab things you finally moved into Apple Mail - Primary, Transactions, Updates, Promotions.

One more please, Newsletters.

They don’t fit into any of the above.

At a pinch .. updates - but really - NO.

🔗 Super-rich flee London: Capital suffers biggest exodus of millionaires in the world, new study shows.

‘Flee’? ‘Suffers’?

  • What percentage are Russians?
  • What percentage are non Doms?
  • What percentage actually contributed to the economy?

With those answers we might find that this is good news.

🔗 David Brooks: I Should Have Seen This Coming - The Atlantic

Yes you should David .. yes you should. It was all pretty clear. The fact you are surprised and seem to be on some kind of world apology tour does not change my opinion.

🔗 The Social Security Administration Is Gutting Regional Staff and Shifting All Public Communications to X

I have 3 questions …

  • Why aren’t I surprised?
  • Why do I feel that this is totally true .. and false .. at the same time?
  • Did the Onion buy Wired .. or the other way round?

If only your nation were blessed with the steady hand of a very stable genius like ours, you too could enjoy the soothing predictability of a stock market that never swings wildly, crashes overnight, or reacts to, say, courtrooms or coups like this.

Imagine the poor souls living under the tyranny of uncertainty where interest rates whiplash, AI stocks moonwalk, and politicians treat indictments like press releases.

Thankfully, we have none of that nonsense. All hail our calm, collected, chaos-free dear leader..
