🍎 Apple
🔗 Intent Computing vs. Spatial Computing
Clearly Apple is not deprecating Spatial Computing. It’s a remarkable creation and those of us who use it find it irresistible and irreplaceable.
Great piece from Horace Dediu - and iterates on why I am in - and firmly remain in - the camp of ‘Vision Pro’ was a success.
(It comes down to that old chestnut that many people still try to understand 🍎 through the lens of other companies and then double down with criticisms like ‘not innovative’, ‘where’s the next iPhone’, ‘they’ve lost the plot’ …)

👁️ Golden Gate has an associated metaphor from John C. Frémont, who ‘compared the entrance to San Francisco Bay with the Golden Horn in Istanbul and described it as a “golden gate” to Pacific trade’.
Can’t help thinking that 🍎 are playing that metaphor as applied to new worlds opening …

Crucial Track 🎵 May 16, 2026
"Oh Well (Live)" by Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers
Talking of superb covers … as I wrote 🖇️ here not even a month ago - a glorious cover of track by Fleetwood Mac. Before John and Stevie. Even before Christine.
Bonus Round ...
🔗🍎🎵 PartONE that Tom covered.
🔗🍎🎵 PartTWO that Tom did not cover - totally different and Peter Green's favourite part.
both performed by Fleetwood Mac.

🔗 No one is listening to Steve Jobs’s advice about the EU Digital ID Wallet
🍎 I have no idea if this is anywhere near true / possible. BUT.
A $2billion acquisition is (I think) the second largest Cupertino has ever done? So clearly there’s something going on - and I hate talking to my computer for so many reasons. So this …
Q.ai specialized in one thing: analyzing facial micro-movements and patterns to determine what you’re saying, without any audible speech required.
shall we say piqued my interest and just might solve my issue.

[my thanks to @devilgate for pointing out my typo … ‘piqued’ … not ‘peaked’]
🍎 Not wrong. Of course I know nothing - but he’s still not wrong.
🔗 Apple’s Mac Mini Went Viral.
Some of these systems will surely arrive on other platforms eventually, but at the moment, they’re only on the Mac. They’re not on Windows, not on Linux, not on Android, and not on iOS. Just the Mac. That’s because the Mac is, and always has been, the best computer platform in the world. It just is. These systems can’t run on iPhones or iPads because those are baby computers. They just are. So if you to jump in as an early adopter on desktop AI, it needs to be on a Mac. And if you want a headless always-on Mac to do it, the only options are a Mac Mini or Mac Studio.

I guess every 🍎 pundit in the world had their 50 years of 🍎 lined up and ready to go this morning. And go they did. Holy crap, that’s a lot of memories.

🔗 Does Apple’s AI Opportunity Outweigh Component Cost Inflation?
Unlike many of its peers, Apple isn’t in the race to win AI benchmarks or translate those gains into tangible financial gains. It just needs those features to change behavior and pave the way for healthier services revenue.
🍎 is not playing ‘our’ game - except for ‘announcements’ that for whatever reason they have decided to join. They clearly do not know how to play it and are losing. Badly.

Clearly 🍎 has lost the plot.
We were pleased to see the Mac install base reach another all-time high, with nearly half of customers who purchased a Mac being new to the product.

Here’s a clever thing that I noticed last night about 🍎📺 .. you watch and something critical was said - and you missed it. You wind back 10 - 20 seconds - it plays again .. with temporary subtitles - that then fade away - brilliant.

But most importantly 🔗 the BBC earlier this year
The BBC has apologised to staff who felt they could not speak up with concerns about Russell Brand’s behaviour because he was seen as “too influential” and they felt he “would always get his way and therefore they stayed silent”.
But Robin Ince? Fire🔗 the fucker.
All this comes to mind as I watch the emerging BBC/Trump case.
Take Apple News vs iBooks - they’re both reading apps, so why is it necessary to have two separate apps? Because they’re extremely different reading and writing experiences and it doesn’t make sense to lump them into a one-size-fits-all approach.

BUT anything I highlight, save, make a note on/in ANY of the things I am reading, watching or listening to all ends up in the same place.
(Another discovery in ‘Drafts’ March 2023)
Holy Crap
I have been so fed up with the slug that my M4 Mac had become around saving files - removing ‘moonlock’ and ‘clean my mac’, stopping electron files from running - firing up terminal commands as if my life depended on it. NADA.
So with a quick hail mary I jumped on to the 26.2 public beta (with the same joy and spirit as I did when I did something similar with 26.1 - and got no change …)
and yet …

Here I am - a man no longer tortured - and what seems to be a massive upgrade in performance that 🍎 never - ever - fessed up to.
Let’s see if it holds.
