We all get that broken link message from time to time don’t we? What is particularly interesting on this post is to find EIGHT blocks - I wonder if it is the writers insisting on the block - I don’t think there I any other constant.

Don’t worry, it’s not my usual rant. Just a very funny piece of standup that needs to be watched more than it has.

The Furor and How One Creative Thinker Changed Everything

To catch you up, you might have missed 🔗 📼 this video .. you can see it at the bottom of the page.

When I first saw it, I liked the visual effect - but really - not the message. As I wrote over on 🔗 John’s blog

I saw that vid .. kinda like it .. BUT .. I dunno … destroy everything physical, crush it to nothing ?

Unbeknownst to this bear - a lot of people were of the same opinion. A ‘furor’ indeed.

Anyway, in the comments thread on John’s blog he highlighted 🔗this ’twitter post’ from Reza Sixo Safai. This is the 🔗 tweet

Now on occasions I do pop out from under my rock and have noticed that these days Twitter isn’t a very nice place to go anymore. So - on behalf of you dear reader, I donned my protective suit, sprayed myself from top to bottom, grabbed the video and behold …. With all and every credit to Reza. ’Twitter’ is the only reason I pulled it to be here - because Twitter, so now all can view it - and those with protective clothing can pop over and see for themselves.

My comment cannot be better than this one …

This is unironically one of the cleverest creative feats I have ever seen. To take a widely-publicized, universally panned ad and then turning it into the exact ad that it should have been, communicating the desired message 10000x better.

At the beginning of the year I had grand plans for this series. A daily long-form post about something that was rattling my brain that day. And then life. For a while, I was even just dropping markers - to revisit. I came to realise that part of the problem was the complexity of the structure for each post - so that went away. Simplicity really is rather nice. As I write on 240413, I am now going back and filling in the gaps. PLUS - unless something strikes me immediately, I will not classify until the end of the day and go back to move one of the posts of the day into the 366. Also - if you are wondering how I have update the words at the bottom of over 100 posts at a stroke, well - THANK YOU Andy Sylvester and his Glossary plugin.

Just a BIG shout out to @vladcampos for 🔗 📼 this video which talks you through how to rearrange the categories on the archive page of your MicroBlog.

GREAT JOB SIR - most excellent. Really really clear - and it worked first time.

AND of course - big shout out to @otaviocc for the new page.

I did it and it did exactly what it said on the tin.

Sadly it still isn’t quite right - i think mainly because Vlad is using Tiny Theme and I am using Hitchens and I am guessing some kind of styling conflict kicked in and it threw out the rest of my page (like Vlad I am not a developer), but no big deal, we just rolled back and maybe not at 11:32 pm I will look at the coe and se if I can parse what should be changed.

Vlad - one additional thing - rather than saving the name of a page and creating a new one - you can in fact click on the original page and when you save it - it automatically creates the edited page in the block at the top - that will save a few nano seconds.

Anyway - over and out - GREAT job. Thank you.

🔗 📼 This an 11 year old Ted Talk featuring Pablo Holman - demonstrating hacks on the stage. ELEVEN years ago .. so what 2013?

It includes a shout out to Kim Cameron who Pablo called The Chief Privacy Architect at Microsoft, which indeed at one time he was - though Kim retired from Microsoft May, 2011, the shout being an announcement that his hacks allowed him to track KIm as he moved through a conference - and … well, I will let you watch the video.

Imagine what is possible today. And you wonder why we have problems.

Kim of course is the author of The Seven Laws of Identity, that I have had the occasion to refer to on this very blog and it is unclear if Pablo’s call out of what he achieved in tracking Kim had any connection to Kim’s retirement - and to be sure I am not suggesting that at all, and to my knowledge nothing suggests that this was the case.

Fast Forward to last year and here he is again with another Ted Talk ‘Nuclear Reactors Can Solve Inequality’. 🤯

🖇️ After this .. another one from May last year. This one wasn’t as ‘finished, so tweaked a bit for clarity.

Separate question - what was going on in my life in May last year?

Just off a loooong web session with 50 or 60 very wise people talking about AI and ESG. Specifically ‘The Future of Sustainable Decisions in the Boardroom.’ Great session, and they are regular sessions, so ping me if you would like to join the next one.

It came up, so I will report … though I have said this before AND I am going to keep saying it in different ways.

AI used to be about being the best. If the chess program couldn’t beat a grand master then clearly it wasn’t very good. And then it was - so then they said what about ‘GO’ … it never won - and then it did. Clearly AI doesn’t work - until it does.

But this stuff is new.

Yes - it doesn’t write like Stephen King or paint like Monet .. but most of us don’t and …

AND that’s not the point.

The point is that it can write better than the average person.

So (to begin with ) only the below average people will be replaced.

Problem 1 - ask anyone how good they are at anything - they will ‘generally’ see themselves as ‘better than average’.

Problem 2 - statistically - 50% of those people are wrong.

Problem 3 - a substantial part of the population can’t see it coming.

The Ostrom Sessions are part of a program running at Indiana University - curated and directed by Doc Searls.

They haven’t all been the best, though the speakers have always been ‘real names’. The video is the latest with guest Jeff Jarvis. This one was good.
