🎈171/366 📸 🌊 Been waiting for a better shot all day - but other than different levels of light - this is has been ‘it’ for the day. All day.

🔗 The GOP’s Vision of an Authoritarian America Is…Coming True.

Umair Haque nearly a year ago. He seemed a little extreme back then.

🎈170/366 Over on Substack, Tom Cox dispatched a newsletter : All The Life Coaches Have Life Coaches.

There were some comments, but nobody seemed to be looking at the title, which prompted me to remark that I thought it was Hawking that introduced ‘turtles all the way down’ to a broader audience and went on to wonder if this refinement relates.

If all life coaches have a life coach can that life coach coach the life coach that coaches his life? Or is it life coaches all the way down?

I need to understand what this means. It’s from an essay that I tried to read, which lead me to the conclusion that I am definitely not the target reader, which might explain why this seems to be the absolute opposite of my understanding of even ‘why’ an ecosystem.

I will try to 🚧 revisit.

We live in a world where everything is Alternative .. and so nothing is.

Curious final line in Matt Mullenweg’s post re Apple Intelligence.

(Interesting that Apple has now started to adopt the playground terminology.)

💬 Matt Mullenweg

I am no expert on these things - but …

  1. Didn’t Wordpress come out with ‘Playgrounds’ last year?
  2. Haven’t Apple been using ‘Playgrounds’ for around a decade?

🎥 Lift, 2024 - ★★★

Not totally bad .. but confused .. and definitely below expectations. Vincent was great. The rest .. meh.

🎈169/366 The most immediate existential threat to the world is not climate change, or nuclear proliferation, or growing the population, or anything else. It is Trump. No more. No less. Don’t sit back and think that this is just an American problem.

📸 🌊 Early one morning, just as ….

I was very happy to learn that the ferry goes to the mainland every hour and that the bus to the ferry also goes every hour.

I was not happy to learn that the bus arrives at the ferry around 3 minutes after the ferry leaves.

Filed in the ‘stuff you can’t make up’ bucket.

Not seen much comment about this (but then I don’t always read the right things).

Sadly I won’t be experiencing it any time soon.

1] Serious props to @gruber and team

2] If Apple doesn’t know - I feel they should work it out … quickly.

Stopping now - 🔗 📼 to watch the 2D version.

Listening to Scott Galloway on the show with Kara .. essentially defending ‘work based’ sexual predators. Yes he qualifies … but no.

Listening to the latest ‘Automators’. First time in a LONG time, but interested to listen into the WWDC through the Lens of Automation.

@dsparks and @rosemaryorchard doing a good summary. I second the ‘don’t update advice’. I have a spare iPad that I use for Beta. So not totally pissed off that it is currently worse than a brick. Worse? Sure - you can at least build something with a brick 😂

Rosemary’s take on Shortcuts gives me confidence to try them out again - because for me - life is too short to deal with a string of ‘ifs’ and other rules shortcomings. Sounds like that might be fixed?

David commenting that Shortcuts was ‘short changed’ on updates on this round - wondering if that is because Apple Intelligence - from a customer experience POV might be a better way to do something things that previously only Shortcuts could do? Not there yet - but maybe they will get to that when they get to the Apple Intelligence section.

🔗 I’ve done mine. .. have you done yours?

🎈168/366 Guestbooks, Blogrolls, Reciprocity and Paying It Forward

Trying to tie it all together for the occasional visitor.

It all started with Guestbooks. ( 🖇️ I have one ) and yesterday I caught up on reciprocating and getting ahead of the curve. ✅

I then created a new page that is connected to and referenced from my guest book page - so that there is a quick check for those I have visited. 🖇️ You can find that here. - and anyone signing mine can move on to the next …

And then I added a new blogroll. If I sign your guestbook, I add your feed to my NetNewsWire and from there it appears on my 🖇️ ’Guestbook Blogroll’

Enjoy.

🎥 Safe House, 2012 - ★★★½

Somehow missed this in 2012 .. good cast, good director, good film .. and what a YOUNG Ryan’s Reynolds … it was only 12 years ago.

Worth a watch - though a relatively predictable story arc.

🎥 Elvis, 2022 - ★★★½

I know he died ‘young’ at ’42’ (now THERE’s a reference), somehow I forget really just how young he was, given his impact on culture. That said, for me, never a great fan. Appreciate who he was, what he did .. but maybe just too young to be a real fan and maybe my musical interests are different.

This all to explain why it might have taken me this long to get round to watching the Elvis biopic (another being ’Tom’ - on this occasion playing ’Tom’ - someone else I don’t go out go my way to watch - but when I do, generally pleasantly surprised).

As always, never entirely clear as to the accuracy of the back drop of the historical perspective (at least the detail), but bottom line - yes - if you haven’t already - watch it.

When asked how I juggle so many different roles, I explain that each time I add a new one, I do all the others a bit worse. …
