Had characters from Star Wars ever visited earth - they would surely have failed.
This world cannot agree on electrical voltage, how many prongs a plug should have, the configuration of said prongs, nor the shape of them.
Star Wars on the other hand is so standardized that R2D2 can turn up anywhere - plant his little ‘doodad’ into any socket and charge himself up, open anything, communicate with remote planets, back up, restore … the list is endless.
Threads might well have a web app - but if you can’t sign on … is that a problem?

I wonder if there is an ‘origins story’ around that name that ties the ‘5 old white guys’ to the comic books of the same name where the heroes are a ‘team of mutated dinosaur heroes’.

Historically not been a big watcher of the Star Wars franchise. Sure I have watched them - but not ‘religiously’ - so expert in the story arc I am not. That said - I really like the back story series that they have been producing. (Even 🖇️ Boba Fett - despite my review at the time and definitely 🖇️ The Mandalorian)
About that strike ….
… what those streaming numbers say about the state of society is a different discussion.
Things on the internet can be forever, but you can’t assume someone else will keep them going, especially when it’s stuff like video, which costs real money to host. If you love something, try to get a local copy and store it on a hard drive you control.

I continue to think that these generative tools are good for augmenting certain workflows, but replacing whole people is going to be very unusual. We’ll see, though.

I would agree - but that isn’t what is going to happen.
If you have thirty people in a department’ and AI makes you 10% ‘more efficient’ - a company now only needs 27 people.
Repeat.
Across all departments, Across all companies. Across all industries.
Of course some departments are going to be more affected than others. For example If you are working on a help desk where your job is to answer questions in a call center … well - firstly, that 10% estimate is going to be a lot higher. So - what do you think is going to happen?
