DeepFloyd … interesting.
I loved Wunderlist at the time. Then Microsoft bought it. I wonder why they bothered?

🔗 Your AI ~v~ A.I. comment triggered a thought.
Going forward, I am standardizing on AI.
A.I. might imply a two letter acronym for Artificial Intelligence .. and for now, whilst I agree that it’s ‘artificial’, I am far from convinced ‘it’ demonstrates ‘intelligence’.
Meanwhile, AI is a nice handy name to bucket these things under.
When thinking about AI … a question raised in a recent podcast …
Do we want tools … or friends?
Spotify 🔗purged thousands of AI-generated songs uploaded by the music startup Boomy. The streamer said it flagged the tunes it thought were being listened to by bots, which inflated listener numbers.
Not just written by AI - but listened to by bots.
I wonder how much income that cost real artists?
🔗 The summer of decentralized social
Sam Liebeskind provides a nice simple guide to the world of decentralized social networks by comparing to the email world.
🔗 EMAIL : the first, largest and most open social network..
Reading more and more deep dives into the writers strike. Fascinating.
My next newsletter was about the intersection of technology and religion …. but I think the timeliness of the strike story and the wider implications to our world is more important.
It’s beyond slow … just found three posts from yesterday that didn’t even make it to the blog .. or the stream. Not able to replicate … which is part of the problem .. now each post needs to be checked to make sure it made it.
Very frustrating.
Meta closed Meta … meta.
I think his next move is to rename the company ‘A.I.’ … or maybe ‘AI’?
🔗 Is It Time to Quit Coffee for Good? (Apple News) .. of course I haven’t read it … what a stupid question. And if the arguments are real and valid … well count me in the Ostrich camp.

Well at least they are honest about the fact that they don’t pay their staff a living wage … despite charging well over a hundred for a bottle of plonk.
I know @manton and @danielpunkass were chatting about this issue recently.
Got up, had breakfast … and now let’s get to the rest of the day ….
4:29 in the afternoon you say?
How the hell did that happen?
Soon enough, the traditional 10 blue links on a search engine results page will seem as archaic as dial-up internet and rotary phones.
💬 Sridhar Ramaswamy
Sridhar is the former head of Google search and co-founder of Neeva, a new search engine powered by AI - so of course he would say that … wouldn’t he?
I hope he is saving some of his income for the future .. because it can’t last forever … can it? Will it?
‘Eurovision is not political’ … discuss
🎥 Tetris, 2023 - ★★★½

Maybe it should be 4 stars? Great little bit of history ... But I don’t know the real story well enough to know how much poetic license was employed. I liked the graphic reminders (and associated pixel resolutions) spread throughout the film, that were so mind blowing to everyone at the time. I also had no idea that Maxwell was so involved in the story.

Out in six. That will take the wind out of their sails … and sales, come to think of it.
