Bill Bishop is thinking about introducing advertising on to his Substack.

“The Substack model of “only ads” doesn’t make much sense long term for most writers. Even if they convert 10% of their audience, they’re making no money from 90%. Most businesses don’t operate that way.

This is not wrong, but I hope what Bishop means is what I call @gruber style advertising - and not seeking to ‘track the tar out of us’.

I also wonder how he will handle paid subscriptions (I’m not a paid subscriber of Sinocism) - will they see the ads aswell?
