📺 Shows
📺 The Last Thing He Told Me
Not ‘unentertaining’ (is that even a word?).
I did get to the end .. which doesn’t always happen, even though ‘the why’ I got pretty much immediately.

📺 Kaleidoscope
I remember a news item a few months ago about a series on one of the streaming services that plays the episodes in a random order for each viewer. Clever I thought, a non linear show played on a linear format, moved on and promptly forgot about it.
I just finished it. Really, really good. Arguably made so much better by the lead actor .. Giancarlo Esposito .. but seriously, no duds. Highly recommend it.
(Side note .. I didn’t even clock that the show was the one I had read about until the very end.)

📺 3 Body Problem
I didn’t dislike it .. I just didn’t care about the people. I mean .. ok and all that, but I think the title is the most interesting thing.

📺 The Fixer
2015 .. Season One .. doesn’t seem to be a Season Two. Probably says something. Probably would agree with that something.

🎈178/366 📺 Blackbird
Why it took me so long to watch Blackbird I have no idea. But oh so good.

📺 Turn Up Charlie
Just like 🖇️ Loot .. not one to dislike … and likely more a passion project for the only reason I watched it ( a while back now) .. Idris.
But I do like to occasionally log some older stuff .. cos we don’t all watch everything at the time do we … so you still need to know.. right? Wrong?
Or do you?

📺 Loot ★★★½
There should be a rating between Like and Dislike. In the end I went for like .. because in all honesty I couldn’t really ‘dislike’ … but no .. NOT a recommendation. I wonder if they were trying to go for that Ted Lasso feel good thing? No idea .. but whatever that Ted Lasso feel good thing is … it was not this.
LATER:
Get despite that initial review of the first couple of series … here I am again on the third. I guess it has something ❓
Series 1 ★★★½
Series 2 ★★★½
Series 3 ★★★½

📺 Sugar
Stunning .. great job from Colin F .. but the homage to ‘noir’ yet modern, the direction, the cinematography, the colors, the lights, the nuance … everything. Just so good.
I have read that people loved the mid season ‘twist’ …if we are talking last scene in episode 6 .. yeah no .. I had that scene in my head for a couple of episodes prior, so no twist for me. In fact, it happened to coincide with when I thought the show had finished .. and I 🖇️ even posted that I was very disappointed with the ending (EEJIT I am).
Anyway .. all this to say … loved it. If you have 🍎 📺, whatever else you are watching stop - and go take a look.

📺 Safe House
Meh. Look carefully you will see I didn’t dislike it. Equally, I didn’t like. I liked the premise - each series an entirely different cast, set of characters - even the Safe House itself was a different house (and yes - I did watch both) … but still. MEH.

📺 A Man In Full
It was only when I got to the end that I discovered it was a series that emerged from a Tom Wolfe novel. This is no ‘Bonfire’ though. Jeff did a good job - but really, not much of a story. The only surprise was the ending. No spoilers - but it wasn’t what I expected - but now you know it is Wolfe - maybe it will be?

📺 Crooks
Netflix. Dubbed. Caper. Not much more to say, except I did watch it all the way through.

📺 One Lane Bridge
Two seasons worth. Another in the style of ‘Kiwi Scandinavian Noir’ 😁. It’s not a cracker - but good enough to watch both seasons over time. (Trust me - there are many a show I start - never finish - and a review of which you will not find in here.)

📺 The Brothers Sun
Despite writing this back in February - it didn’t. Quirky. Funny. Great Action - and Michelle Yeoh. I mean - c’mon.

📺 Criminal Record 🚧
‘Truth to Power’. Solid, gritty, Brit detective drama.

📺 The Gulf
Coincidentally found myself living on/in ‘The Gulf’ when I discovered the show, so watched it with a little bit of a ’travelogue’ perspective. 😁 One of those dark Kiwi shows - they seem to be emulating ’Scandinavian Noir’ - if that is a term. If it isn’t, it should be. Great show.

📺 Gray
Arguably formulaic - but something about it kept me hooked. And ‘Cornelia’, don’t you love that name? If you like this genre - it is well worth a watch.

📺 Ripley
Started slow. Continued slow. Finished Slow. And I loved it. The Black and White cinematography was superb. More in those grey tones than color could ever do. Have to say I was nervous of having a longer version of the film. No worries. Totally different.

📺 Fool Me Once
I have watched a lot of the Harlan Coban mini series on Netflix. The early ones used to be really good … and then somehow I think the way was lost. This latest, while not the best, certainly represents a turning of the order for ‘good story’.
That said .. final episode .. last 5 minutes? Yeah … No. Totally unnecessary.
