Dare I suggest that the conclusion in Scripting News: Monday, February 27, 2023 that @dave has come to is wrong.

@manton isnโ€™t limiting the number of characters in a post, he is limiting how many of those characters get to appear in the stream.

Count me as one who doesnโ€™t want to scroll through 5,000 words of one post to get to the next โ€ฆ so I am for it. Though there might be a better way that keeps all of us happy.

What if I got to choose in my settings how many characters I see in any post in the stream before it is truncated. In this way, the experience of the reader is put first and the writer doesnโ€™t have to think what gets truncated or not .. because they have no idea where their readers are setting their truncation point?
