Based on some back-of-the-envelope math, if Bezos had sold the earlier tranche of 50 million Amazon shares at Tuesday’s share price instead of February’s, he would’ve made about $10 billion instead of the $8.5 billion he pocketed. It has always been clear to me that the Bezos changes at WaPo are not really about the money (as in burn, losses, run rate and costs) and all about the money (in terms of opportunity, influence and upside.)
