🎈107/366 A Personal Knowledge Repository?
It is lost in the mists of time but I seem to recall a post by @brentsimmons from years ago - maybe even last century? The advice was to reply to emails as a post, so that when a second email comes, you can modify the material on your blog and send the link. (I more than likely have over simplified, taken it out of context, changed the essence if not meaning / idea - but that’s what we do right? The point is that the core thinking has stuck with me … write once - use many.
It’s good advice and indeed many corporate processes follow this idea. Think help desk, somebody asks a gnarly question, it isn’t available in your ‘knowledge repository’, so you reply with original thought and then publish that answer into the repository so that anyone else who has the question can find the answer.
BUT - when it comes to the personal blog, even I - who has this ingrained in my brain, still doesn’t do this as routine and - even more frustrating - when i do .. it gets forgotten about over time because I don’t have a real system to manage such things - and why would I?
So it is about memory - but also I have found the Micro Blog Search-Space PlugIn by @sod absolutely excellent for unpacking such posts'.
All this to say that I have just put up a page on my blog that is the start of attempting to provide help to others that ask.
Enjoy.
🖇️ Getting Started With Your Own Micro Blog

@donnydavis - a little help on your drafts action please.
I have just been reassigning and reorganising my tags in drafts
See image below.

As part of my sorting - I have removed all the posts under your action and starting again.
BUT - whatever I do - I can’t delete that domain:https tag - even though all those drafts that used that have been deleted from my system. I even deleted the action itself. Still there.
Any ideas?
For months I have had 4 ghost messages in 🍎 Mail. That’s 4 ‘unread messages’ according to the count - but no messages there.
It’s a known problem that has been there through many versions of OSX. In the past, I have always been able to flush it out with various tools like delete the plist, rebuild etc etc.
This time round - nada. I learned to live with it.
Until yesterday.
Out of the blue 13 more got added to the count. They just appeared (if that doesn’t confuse you - because of course the whole point is that they do not actually appear!
So now - a total of seventeen. FFS … Apple. Hello?
How long should it take my blog to settle down after a big Wordpress import … it all went in … seemingly just fine - but the blog itself is not showing posts that were NOT part of the import - for example searching for ‘silo’ or ‘📺’ does not pull up my review of same - despite it clearly being there in the back end.

Later
Quite a while it turns out, At least if you have thousands of posts.

Thinking Allowed
This is a People First post that was originally on the People First domain. It has been moved here as part of my domain consolidation program. It’s a steady and slow WIP as I check each entry, so do please bear with me.- More about People First
- Other People First Posts
(not just from the ‘other domain’ … all of them.)
Why is it so hard to resize, align right and remove drop shadow on an image in MicroBlog? I’ve lost count of the iterations I have tried.
For example this one looks fine in Mars Edit and then … well - click through to this to see what I mean.
A couple of useful help links that I am dropping in here to revisit.

Notes is once more becoming part of my information storage solution. It was already pretty good - but with what I sense is coming later this year - thought I would push some stuff around in ther again. Adding a horizontal line is still ridiculously not easy. BUT I found this, which is a pretty good hack that works.

And that’s a wrap for now. Finally
Turns out that ' " ' is apparently not the same at all as ' “ ' !!!

For a while I have been using Bookmarks to (inconsistently) mark posts where someone in the community has offered help on some aspect of Micro Blog or related services that I had been stuck with. Meanwhile I also had a new category - called ‘help’. So - the last few posts allowed me to unbookmark the posts in question and it is now indexed on my Help category. This is definitely NOT a replacement for the excellent help resources that already exist …
TIL - thank you @SimonWoods
Custom MicroBlog - thank you @miraz @jsonbecker @hall
Are there any others? (Let me know in the comments and I will add.)
That said, maybe there is something here you might find useful and interesting. (As of February 18th, it is a short list - but I am currently re indexing my back catalogue, so I expect a few more will surface as I go.)
Thank you @amit
Thank you @bradenslen
🚧 Not sure what the plan is … or even if there is a plan … but I would vote from some more thought into how pages work on Micro Blog. Everything works just fine for a handful, but I am now over 20 and counting. It is starting to get hard to keep track of them with just a list;
- which pages belong together❓
- nested in the menu❓
- is it showing on the menu or not❓
My kluge is to use emojis

… but emojis in the page title do not consistently show up on the site. See this compared to this for example - and yes - not yet fully consistent with
- my page URL naming convention
- pages that seek to help in some category promotion
