🔗 A Typography Geek Pointed Out Something About The Space Shuttle Discovery And Now I Can’t Unsee It - The Autopian

Here’s a funny thing - now there’s a funny thing

💬 Frankie Howard

.. found via @gruber (TOH: Jason Snell).

Nowhere in the article or in JG’s short post is the idea of ‘typo’ introduced - but Jason did in his headline:

TYPO FOUND ON 42-YEAR-OLD SPACESHIP

But it’s not a typo I thought. WRONG

Whilst it is true that by 🔗 Merriam Webster’s definition it is not a typo:

an error (as of spelling) in typed or typeset material

.. no apparent reference to ‘layout’ errors) … BUT - elsewhere on the web I found

Typographic vs. Orthographic Error: In strict design terms, an orthographic error is a spelling mistake (like writing “Discovry”). A typographical error historically meant any physical layout blunder made by a typographer or typesetting machine–including inserting a letter upside down, backwards, or in the wrong font.

Good call Jason.
