I have NO idea where the data for this claim emanates from - but still .. the average American?

Are you better or worse than average?

Extending the data set

  • are you American?
  • do you live in America?

The Four Day Work Week - Is New Zealand Being Left Behind?

You can read the article here.

It’s not really a question as to whether New Zealand is being left behind. I think there are many countries facing this challenge … but the question is what is the challenge?

I ask because I believe that there is a massive conflation of this as people make their arguments..

Does a 4 day week mean

  • Working 40 hours in 4 days

OR are we really talking about reducing the number of hours of a standard week to 32 hours?

If the latter we are essentially awarding people a 20% increase in their wage/salary… really? From businesses who argue that they can’t afford a 2 Percent increase in salaries?

If it is the former … what’s the big deal? It isn't that hard to reschedule the teams .. and the benefits to the staff ... priceless!

Imagine cutting out 20% of these rides every week!

This is an easy commute - try it during rush 'hour'!

“A warm beautiful ocean with sunlight and clouds with a sunrise and sparkles on the water and a hint of lavender and jasmine or roses” was the request I made on ‘Dall-E mini’.

I am in line for the real thing - but only 2,500 people have been accepted so far ☹️.

… and so farewell justgoodmusic.net - it was fun.

Finding it hard to get a new job? Robot recruiters might be to blame.

It’s bad enough that you have to alter your behaviour and who you are to get your post read on social media, much less to tune your entire career history to keywords that some bot can understand.

I was thinking about that Rummy quote today - you know the known / unknowns one … and it struck me that he doesn’t cover off ‘unknown knowns’ …. that is ‘things that we don’t know we know’.

It’s an important piece that is missing. No?

Oooooh … Peaky 6

‘Quitting for Beginners’ .. who knew that there were stages of skills associated in the fine art of quitting.

I’d clearly been quitting all wrong.

And then the brain engaged ….

Quilting … ‘Quilting for Beginners’.

Dear OSX Daily - are headlines like this really necessary?

How Do I Check the Battery on My iPad Pro Magic Keyboard?

I read and hear such a lot of Apple negativity from Apple Developers, that finding just one article of positivity is not easy. (Maybe I follow the wrong people?)

Still, A Tangible Demonstration of Care - David Smith an Independent iOS Developer is a definite exception to the rule - and a real breath of fresh air.

Inspiring enough that I decided that now is the time to go relook at his widgets app.

(I had previously, I just don’t didn’t tinker enough to warrant the app.

But that excuse predates ‘16’ and the ‘lock screen’.

A Good Idea That Might Go Wrong OR A Bad Idea That Will Get Worse?

A New Prediction Market Lets Investors Bet Big on Almost Anything - I see it is behind a paywall - but you can read it all on Apple News

The article is about a ‘new’ prediction market : Kalshi - which initially had problems with getting approval …

“But their concerns were overruled by the agency’s politically appointed commissioners, one of whom has since joined Kalshi’s board.”

The concerns are clear - but for all of that - I can’t help wondering if this still might be a good idea. (Revolving doors between government and commerce aside.)

Of course - they aren’t the first. Heard of predictit (I never knew it was a Kiwi play.)

In 1997, Wired Magazine Predicts 10 Things That Could Go Wrong in the 21st Century: “An Uncontrollable Plague,” Climate Crisis, Russia Becomes a Kleptocracy & More

For 25-year-old predictions, I would have expected to see these two all over the press in 2022 - but not yet?
